Time for a heavy tune from, The Heavy. The song “What Makes A Good Man” is from their 2012 album “The Glorious Dead” and was released as a single, also in 2012. The band hails from Bath, England (been there) and plays a guitar rock sound, with soul undertones. They have met with much success over the past couple of years. This song will invoke memories of their earlier hit “How You Like Me Now”, which has been used in everything from Kia commercials to Hockey Night In Canada opening credits. No matter, good tune. Just remember, it is a lot louder than a lot of what I have posted lately.
Soul R&B singer, Allen Stone recorded this gem in 2011 and widely released in 2012. Sleep can be found on his album “Allen Stone”. I have a big weak spot for everything blues/R&B/soul and he hits the sweet spot.
He has a gospel background, which pops up in his writing and style, and lists people like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and the Meters as his influences. He currently resides in Seattle, and is on tour in Europe as I write this.
“Shop Around” by The Miracles. The song was recorded and released in 1960. This was before they were known as Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. The artist on this classic was credited as The Miracles (featuring Bill “Smokey” Robinson”.
We had no winner on this one, so Rebecca’s stupendous award has, once again, been forced to wait on it’s introduction to the world.
Today’s question will leave Motown and move on to Blackburn, Lancashire.
Q: In the song “A Day In The Life” by the Beatles, there is a line referring to a particular place. What is Blackburn, Lancashire and why does it have 4,000 holes in it?
