I always enjoy promoting Canadian talent, especially if they are from Calgary. Kate came to my attention in January of 2019 and I am just getting around to introducing you to her now. A bit of a brain break.
Kate Stevens is singer songwriter in the story teller vein. She has a very nice voice, reminiscent of many artists, notably a laid back version of Andra Day and quite jazzy. Definitely worth a listen.
If you enjoy the video, her music and her story in an expanded way are viewable here.

Being as how we are in the Kootenays, it seems appropriate to post a tune by Castlegar’s own Frazey Ford. It doesn’t hurt either that it is a terrific tune.
Shaun Bosch is an alt/folk singer songwriter from right here in Alberta. Currently in Edmonton, the cultural hot spot of the province, Shaun has recently released an album titled “Silence”. He recently dropped me a line asking me to take a listen to the first single off the album titled “Garden”. I have and I found a very interesting song filmed in the splendour of the Kananaskis area of Alberta’s Rockies. Emily Coulston is also featured in the song. It has a bit of a country feel to it, with some definite folk. I hear some Jason Mraz and some Bahamas. Nice song, and if you’re interested, you can catch more at these links.

Australian singer writer Gabriella Cilmi‘s song”Save The Lies” is the result of my random shuffle today. The song is off her 2008 album “Lessons To Be Learned“. She has a very interesting voice, very Amy Winehouse in nature. Lori was the original discoverer of the artist this time. Heard her in a hair salon of all places and she fell in love with the voice.

Hayley Sales is a Canadian/American singer songwriter. Born in DC, she moved with her family to Vancouver Island after she graduated the Northwest Academy. The song that I shuffled up is off her 2010 album, “When The Bird Became The Book” and is called “Simple Song”. This is the only video that comes up and is off her YouTube channel. Very good video, homemade and all. Lori and I have spent a lot time listening to this album and her first one titled “Sunseed”. Like her a lot, great light, well written music.
