Music From The Mailbag -Everywhere”Shades At Night”

Nice tune in the mailbag recently by Swedish Alt band Everywhere and their new tune “Shades at Night”.  A catchy pop tune with some 1980’s legs.  I can see it showing up on your local Alt station at some point in the future.  Enjoy.

The 7:40 Songbook – March 8, 2014

This morning was a pleasant surprise.  Not only was it plus 8 (50 or so for my American friends), which is great for the Canadian prairies in early March, but that >*&*^%$$$ construction on Glenmore is finally gone.  The downside to the morning, Daylight Savings Time meant it was dark again when I got up, and will be for the next couple of weeks.  Now to today’s tune.

The song is “Big Decisions” by My Morning Jacket.  The band is out of Louisville, Kentucky and are shortly releasing a new album, “The Waterfall”, their 7th since forming in 1998.  Good rock ballad.

The 7:40 Songbook – March 6, 2014

Thought it was going to be a terrible drive in today.  Radio said to avoid the route I usually take due to a massive water-main break on Glenmore.  Unfortunately I heard this as I was at the point of no return.  Rolled the dice and won, everybody else went to alternate routes and me and the other cars I saw sailed right through.  Actually got to work 5 minutes earlier than normal.  Enough about the drive, time for the music.

Today’s tune is by St Vincent and is called “Digital Witness”.  St Vincent is actually Anne Clark and hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma, residing in Manhattan.  A singer songwriter, leaning to alternative, I hear some Annie Lennox, not much, but some. Interesting tune with some decent hooks.

The 7:40 Songbook – March 5th, 2014

A pleasant drive today.  The sun is up, but that will change again next week with daylight savings coming in.  Traffic on Glenmore was very light and the music on CKUA was great.  Pulled into the lot a bit early and caught up on some news while waiting for 7:40 to roll over on the digital dial.

Today’s tune is a new release by Helio Sequence, an alternative band out of Portland.  A duo, they have a melodic sound with a hard driving edge.  Very enjoyable tune for you called “Stoic Resemblance”.  And live of course.

Kind of an interesting tune, and a good video.

Jets Overhead are a Victoria, BC, Canada band formed in 2003, who play an alt-rock style.  Boredom and Joy is their 3rd album to go along with 2 EP’s.
