This morning was a pleasant surprise. Not only was it plus 8 (50 or so for my American friends), which is great for the Canadian prairies in early March, but that >*&*^%$$$ construction on Glenmore is finally gone. The downside to the morning, Daylight Savings Time meant it was dark again when I got up, and will be for the next couple of weeks. Now to today’s tune.
The song is “Big Decisions” by My Morning Jacket. The band is out of Louisville, Kentucky and are shortly releasing a new album, “The Waterfall”, their 7th since forming in 1998. Good rock ballad.
This weeks number 1 song (Via CBC Radio 2) and album (As per CKUA) are
Death Cab For Cuties song “Black Sun” as single
Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project as the top album
Two very different bands with 2 very good sounds.
Death Cab For Cutie is a well established American Alternative band out of Washington state that have been playing and recording since 1997. They feature some interesting musical and instrumental variations and the distinct vocals of Ben Gibbard.
Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project features Jayme Stone, a Canadian banjoist. The project is a working of Alan Lomax’s collection of folk songs. Some interesting material here as Jayme has gathered some of North America’s finest folk artists to assist in the making of the album.

A pleasant drive today. The sun is up, but that will change again next week with daylight savings coming in. Traffic on Glenmore was very light and the music on CKUA was great. Pulled into the lot a bit early and caught up on some news while waiting for 7:40 to roll over on the digital dial.
Today’s tune is a new release by Helio Sequence, an alternative band out of Portland. A duo, they have a melodic sound with a hard driving edge. Very enjoyable tune for you called “Stoic Resemblance”. And live of course.
Hi all. Trying to get back into this once more. Great song to come back with, a classic from the Dave Matthews Band called “Too Much”. Used the way back machine as it was recorded and released in 1996.
Cover of Conor Oberst
A treat this week. CBC2 has a new number one, Sam Smith and his great new song “Stay With Me”. Taken from his début album, “In The Lonely Hour”, it is a wonderfully constructed song, highlighted by Sam’s terrific vocals. This is one song where you can ruminate over your past and remember these times in your life when you indeed, wonder! The song has taken CBC by storm (the top 20 is listener generated by online voting), having only been released a few weeks ago. Enjoy!!
The number one album this week on CKUA is by Conor Oberst. The album is titled “Upside Down Mountain”. Conor is best known for his work with Bright Eyes. He is a very talented singer-songwriter out of Omaha, Nebraska. The song I have chosen to show is “Zigzagging Toward The Light”. A very interesting video. If you get tired of waiting for the music, it starts at the 2:30 mark. worth the wait.
