Received notification about JORI SJÖROOS and his new music back in October. The song is definitely different for me, but again is very interesting. Reminds me of Rick Wakeman to some degree with the art rock vibe. Can I see it in my collection, likely not, but I can see that many people will. Label head and multi-award-winning producer JORI SJÖROOS has announced the release of his latest single, “LEAVING THE EARTH”, on the 23rd of October. The single, premiered via CLASH Magazine, is taken from his upcoming album SJÖROOTS which will be released on the 27th of November via 11 ONES. The renowned producer has won more than 10 Finnish Grammys (Emma-Award), the Finnish Performance Rights Organization Award, the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture Award and has composed and produced albums that have gone on to sell more than 600 000 copies worldwide. Chisu, a multiple award-winning artist and fellow label head, also appears on the album.

Over the years, JORI SJÖROOS has played in a number of big festivals, including FLOW 2011, FLOW 2014, Flow 2016 and more recently, RUISROCK 2019, PROVINSSIROCK 2019 and ILOSAARIROCK 2019. As producer and composer for the band PMMP, JORI SJÖROOS has performed at 2 sold-out big arena shows and appeared at numerous festivals. Together with his wife Chisu, he runs the independent record label, 11 ONES and as both a solo artist and part of PMMP, the producer has collected hundreds of millions of views across streaming platforms.

While he is currently based in Porvoo, Finland, JORI SJÖROOS grew up a few hours away in the small town of Turku and spent some time living in London in the nineties, sending demos to the local labels. The Finnish musician finds inspiration in a diverse range of artists, citing the likes of FKA Twigs, Nine Inch Nails, ROSALIA, Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead and Marilyn Manson. However, “LEAVING THE EARTH” draws parallels to some of the more experimental stylings of Faithless, Fever Ray and Oneohtrix Point Never.

Rolling drums and a dark, growling voice set the tone for ‘LEAVING THE EARTH’, developing a gradual climb that expands into the universe. JORI SJÖROOS takes theatrics to another level as he keeps the listener captured on the edge of their seat, expecting a dramatic drop, however, the song continues its own steady climb, as a space ship would to leave the atmosphere.

Speaking of the creation of the single, JORI SJÖROOS tells us, “I created the track as I was walking on our yard, playing with a music app. I wrote the lyrics very quickly, recorded the vocals, and wanted to pitch them down – as the mood insisted it. To me, the song became as “AN ANTHEM OF TRANSFORMATION”. To leave the old, embrace the new.”
