Ka Fu – Heretic

Heretic Cover Art

Next up we have Ka Fu. The album Heretic was released on October 16. Again an artist promoted through an unsolicited email, that I have come to like. The track I have chosen to share is titled Anthropic Tropic. A soothing musical journey that I enjoyed. No video, the track is on Soundcloud. As usual the promotional buzz is below the tracks.

Data Transmission

Electronic producer Ka Fu has released his second album, Heretic which dropped on the 16th of October. Ka Fu recently added to his creative portfolio with a DJ set at the spectacular Eco-Art Park Nikola-Lenivets which premiered with Be-At TV to their 1 million+ followers. The rich sonic palette of Ka Fu’s 2019 debut album Encoding: Master announced his arrival on the scene boasting mixing by Klas-Henrik Lindblad (Anja Schneider, Rodriguez Jr., The Presets) from Berlin BlackHead Studios and received support from Data Transmission, XS Noize, Child Of House, La Belle Musique, the_accidental_poet, 6 AM, Discobelle and Progressive Dreamers, amongst others. 2020 has seen Ka Fu release a moving remix of Lama’s Dream’s track ‘Rain Catcher’ that caught the ear of popular Youtube Channel Ambient and his recently released single ‘The Hope Is Open’  (taken from Heretic) was playlisted by NPR Radio.

Physically residing in Milan, Ka Fu’s true home is his music – a place of constant innovation and freedom. Born and raised in the previously closed Russian military city of Severodvinsk, Ka Fu is a self-confessed global nomad addicted to perpetual change. His one constant is the desire to create, and music brought with it the opportunity to use the endless possibilities of sound to communicate his message to the universe with no concern for time. Ka Fu has chosen to abandon the constraints of genre in an attempt to rediscover the unique feeling of creating meaningful sound waves.

Ka Fu’s upcoming album, Heretic features an eclectic collection of tracks characterised by the artist’s ability to convey a sense of unyielding forward motion through his sound. He drew considerable inspiration from the legendary sound of Depeche Mode with a refreshing dash of wave energy courtesy of heavyweights Noah B and Kareful. Ka Fu’s own work takes one step further into the future, melding formidable electronics and delicate vocal sampling reminiscent of the sounds of SBTRKT, Jamie XX, HVOB, The Orb and Noah B.

Ka Fu embraces the unconventional and rejects all expected musical norms within Heretic. The aptly named album lulls the listener in with a false sense of security, washing them with waves of melodic synchronicities before tearing apart any preconceived calm. Rolling basslines and entrancing melodies reign free as the music serves one purpose: to challenge and transform.

Speaking of the album’s message, Ka Fu tells us, “Turning to “Heretic mode” is my personal choice for the future. Our lives are surrounded by layers of lies from the power holders. The last months have shown it to me so clearly. Since then, I’ve been doing my own research on the main topics in the world, digging through different sources of information. And you know what? I’m getting a clearer understanding of how blind I was, trusting the things I see without checking them properly. In my opinion, some people are interested in making us fear to live with open hearts. So the way is to build our own circle of trust and knowledge. That’s Heretic albums’ message.”

Remembering Herman Green

Jazz and Blues saxophone player, Herman Green passed away at the age of 90 in Memphis on November 26, 2020. As I read up on him, I found his life to be amazing. I have attached his obituary below. It looks like he played with anybody that was anybody. A true musician’s musician. The YouTube link takes you to a track list, and I have also attached a video. It is over 10 minutes, and is quite interesting. Enjoy the work of this great player.

Caia Brun – Glad You Met Me

Going through my mailbox, I found this one to be next in line. Caia Brun is a pop and R&B singer who released her debut EP of the same name in 2019 (yes, I’m that far behind). Interesting voice, nicely arranged. Check it out and give her a visit at any of the links below the song.

Leaving The Earth – JORI SJÖROOS

Received notification about JORI SJÖROOS and his new music back in October. The song is definitely different for me, but again is very interesting. Reminds me of Rick Wakeman to some degree with the art rock vibe. Can I see it in my collection, likely not, but I can see that many people will. If you are one of them, his music is available on Apple Music. The song below is available now and the album, SJÖROOTS, from which it is from will be available tomorrow, November 27, 2020.

The press release from “The Playground” is below the video. Play it while you look over the release.

Label head and multi-award-winning producer JORI SJÖROOS has announced the release of his latest single, LEAVING THE EARTH”, on the 23rd of October. The single, premiered via CLASH Magazine, is taken from his upcoming album SJÖROOTS which will be released on the 27th of November via 11 ONES. The renowned producer has won more than 10 Finnish Grammys (Emma-Award), the Finnish Performance Rights Organization Award, the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture Award and has composed and produced albums that have gone on to sell more than 600 000 copies worldwide. Chisu, a multiple award-winning artist and fellow label head, also appears on the album.

Over the years, JORI SJÖROOS has played in a number of big festivals, including FLOW 2011, FLOW 2014, Flow 2016 and more recently, RUISROCK 2019, PROVINSSIROCK 2019 and ILOSAARIROCK 2019. As producer and composer for the band PMMP, JORI SJÖROOS has performed at 2 sold-out big arena shows and appeared at numerous festivals. Together with his wife Chisu, he runs the independent record label, 11 ONES and as both a solo artist and part of PMMP, the producer has collected hundreds of millions of views across streaming platforms.

While he is currently based in Porvoo, Finland, JORI SJÖROOS grew up a few hours away in the small town of Turku and spent some time living in London in the nineties, sending demos to the local labels. The Finnish musician finds inspiration in a diverse range of artists, citing the likes of FKA Twigs, Nine Inch Nails, ROSALIA, Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead and Marilyn Manson. However, LEAVING THE EARTH draws parallels to some of the more experimental stylings of Faithless, Fever Ray and Oneohtrix Point Never.

Rolling drums and a dark, growling voice set the tone for ‘LEAVING THE EARTH’, developing a gradual climb that expands into the universe. JORI SJÖROOS takes theatrics to another level as he keeps the listener captured on the edge of their seat, expecting a dramatic drop, however, the song continues its own steady climb, as a space ship would to leave the atmosphere.

Speaking of the creation of the single, JORI SJÖROOS tells us, “I created the track as I was walking on our yard, playing with a music app. I wrote the lyrics very quickly, recorded the vocals, and wanted to pitch them down – as the mood insisted it. To me, the song became as “AN ANTHEM OF TRANSFORMATION”. To leave the old, embrace the new.”

Ja River – Artists Of Instagram

I ran across Ja River on Instagram about a year ago. Again not normally my cup of tea, but I enjoy featuring people from various social media sites. Pleasant voice, good song, handled artistically. This tune is called Turn Me On. You can check her out on Instagram and Facebook.
