I start a new series today (always looking for something fast and simple) called the 7:40 songbook. The premise, the end of my drive to work and the song that comes on at 7:40 in the morning on my trusty FM dial. It could be from CBC2 or it could be CKUA radio. Either way it will not be the same song twice and usually an excellent tune. Both Tom Power of CBC and Grant Stovel of CKUA have very similar tastes to mine in their selections.
The inaugural tune is an interesting number from a rare source, the one man band. In this case it is a bluesy number from Son Of Dave and is called Old Times Were Good Times. This version is a live rendition which gives a good idea of the creativity involved with this genre.
Son of Dave is actually Canadian named Benjamin Darvill who currently is based in the UK. The song is taken from his 2008 album simply titled “03”. Prior to going solo, he was a member of the Crash Test Dummies and is a former Grammy nominee with that band. A very talented player and songwriter.
