A cold drive this morning, honked at every green car I saw. Kind of spooking them a bit I believe. Question, why do people drive 70 in an 80 zone? Can never figure that out. On to today’s songbook.
A bit of country today, although it is getting hard to call country, country these days. More like bluesy rock nowadays. At any rate, we have The Lone Bellow playing “Take My Love” from their 2015 album, “Then Came the Morning”.
What a difference a day makes in Calgary, plus 18 (65 above for my American friends) on one day, snow and minus 2 (28) the next, Those crazy rocks to the west toy with us. Surprisingly, the drive was sedate, only broken up by the lack of visibility with all the moisture flying around.
Today’s tune is by Sarah MacDougall and is entitled “Sparrowhead”, Nice relaxing tune to lose the stress of a crap drive to work, on a Monday, in the snow.
New number ones on both charts this week. We will begin with CBC2’s new number 1 single. Alabama Shakes are releasing a new album next moth and “Don’t Wanna Fight” is their 1st single off the album. Great song, reminiscent of some Bee Gee songs of the past, but done with the incredible of Brittany Howard. Amazing singer.
The album topping CKUA’s chart is Punch Brothers album “The Phosphorescent Blues”. Released in January, they have released 3 singles including “I Blew It Off”, which I have included for your pleasure. Kind of a bluegrass sound, very melodic.
A great morning, beautiful sunrise, more Chinook clouds and reasonably warm. A great day in Calgary. Looking forward to a great long weekend, off tomorrow, making Friday the 13th a lucky day for me. Having said that, I doubt here will be a songbook tomorrow, closed due to sleep.
Today’s tune is called “Emily” by San Fermin. San Fermin is a pop band from Brooklyn, NY. The cut i from their soon to be released album “Jackrabbit”. They have been termed as baroque, but I prefer electronics spiced with some opera. They get the most out of their 8 piece group, giving rich, layered composition with soothing vocals.
Where in the H E Double Hockey Sticks did all that traffic come from. Glad it wasn’t yesterday or I would have never made it without pin-balling off someone. But made it I did, and just in time for the 7:40 tune.
Today’s song needs little commentary, Bob Dylan and “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues”. Turn it up, I think, volume is pretty low on my machine,
